In 1973 I received my diploma in Early Childhood Education from Capilano College in North Vancouver. Following my years working as a preschool teacher I was invited to work with a young deaf, autistic boy and sent to school to learn Sign Language while living in the interior of British Columbia. I continued to upgrade my Sign Language skills through Vancouver Community College, the University of Washington, and numerous Sign Language workshops. Until 1984 I worked in a variety of capacities with deaf and hard of hearing children and adults. It was that year I met my husband who was the custodial parent of his 5 year old twin deaf sons, Roger and Adrian. We married the following year and Sign Language became a daily part of my life. I taught introductory Sign Language classes for many years through adult education facilities as well as to Community Support Workers and now I teach Baby Sign to parents who want to learn a way to communicate prior to their baby learning to talk.
In 1988 I was invited by Jeanne Fike, Executive Director of Burnaby Family Life, to lead a parenting group for deaf parents. Since then I have been leading parenting workshops for family life agencies, family places, elementary schools, preschools and many other organizations as well as some corporations. Becoming a parenting and life coach has been the perfect way for me to integrate my experience, expertise, knowledge and passion. It also allows me to work from home and be available to my 2 teenage children, Marc and Claire. I have received coach training from Coach-Parenting, Coaching and Leadership Int., and Coachville. I provide coaching in person or over the phone, primarily to parents.
