It is so important to use positive reinforcement with children. Rewarding the behaviors that you want will help improve your child's self-confidence and make them virtually unstoppable.

I agree 100% with your article & had been very successful in bringing up my daughter who at the age of 13 been top of everything she did and was a all rounded normal child. My parenting skills included most and more of your suggestions also adding the importance of healthy eating ( no fizzy drinks pre-packed food etc in fact she did not know what a "turkey twizzler" was !) and routine & good christian outlook with regard to manners & consiquesces & living within the law of this land.

But be prepared enjoy those younger years because my daughter changed over night into a typical hormonal brain dead TEENAGER and nothing I can do will change this & I am lucky as I am able to relax & see her through this period and my life now is like a prison warden I have to clean up after every room she has been in and I cannot describe the filth she leaves lying on the ground. Under no circumstances does she stay overnight at sleepovers unless I speak to a parent, she is given money but it just goes like water lending it to freinds or loosing it. All alcholol is locked up. I have to work at getting her asleep at night otherwise she would still be up at 2am. She uses the rail & bus service to travel all over the country as if she has a degree on the subjet. Her school work is a disaster & now she has eating fads, thinks she is fat & ugly, will have showers & 3 baths a night her language is foul,& on top of all this some of her teachers are great others are just useless, some of her freinds parents are great some are completly mad. But I keep on top of it as I spy on her laptop to see that is ok, I empty her school bag for school info. I check all her pockets for receipts so I know where she has been & I read all the silly notes they pass to each other so I know where she is thinking of going...anyway it is a full time job now not worried so much about the educational achievement just keeping her safe and on track at school even if it just scrapping by because I am more afraid now of keeping her away from under age sex, drugs, alchol, piecings, tatoos eating disorders, self harm etc. And all this happened overnight 16 months ago at our bonfire party a child walked up the stairs with her friends & younger cousin in a baggy sweatshirt & vest not even having the smallest inclination to wear clothes which were tight or wear make up & walked down the stairs a couple of hours later full make-up plunge bra bussoms showing tight top & most noticable an atitude and since then I have only had one lovely cuddle when she went to celebrate halloween last oct. at a freinds house to return home covered in egg & stinking of alchol which she had got from our local tesco ( she only had £3 on her for a treat the parent of the party had allowed the girls all under 14 to go to local tesco for a bit of fun at 6pm dressed up & when this was reported to the police firstly I could not speak to my local station all done centrally but I was informed that as it was selling drink to a minor I need to contact the licencing authority) ????????? make sence of that !!!!!!
