The Impact of Energy On Parenting

Have you ever walked into a room and even without anyone saying anything,  feel tension?  Of course you have.  We all have. We love it when we can be among a group of people and feel at ease.  There’s just something in the air that makes us feel comfortable.  What’s interesting is that it’s not necessarily what anyone has said or is saying, although spoken words of course contribute to the feeling.  There are different words to describe what I’m talking about.  Some people will say:  “This place has good vibes.”  Or we might say “The room has good energy”.

We all have a field of energy around us and some people are better than others at picking up that energy.  There are people who “read” energy.  We tend to enjoy being around people whose energy is similar to ours.  It just feels right.  We also like being around people who have vibrant, positive energy because they energize us.  They make us feel lighter.  People who carry around a lot of  tension and negativity tend to drain us.  We can often feel lethargic after being around them and not really know why.

Children pick up our energy.  When we’re feeling irritated, worried or agitated our kids pick that up.  When we’re feeling light and carefree, they pick that up too and their behavior will often correspond to what we’re feeling.  When we’re at peace with our lives our kids feel it.  It gives them a sense of peace and security as well.  I’ve often had parents tell me about their child who is is “angry all the time”.  My next question is “What about you?  Are you often angry?”  “Yes, I am” they’ll tell me.  Our kids are very, very sensitive to what’s going on with us, internally.

The good news is, we can change our energy.  We can control what’s going on internally and therefore change what we’re putting out.  We know whatever we put out, is what we get back.  Without some guidance though it isn’t always easy to do.  Someone telling you to just “change your thoughts” or “snap out of  it” is often easier said than done.

I have had the great privilege of working with someone who I would call an energy expert.  She has a comprehensive understanding of what creates energy and how to shift it.  This summer I participated in one of her guided meditations over the phone and I think I can safely say, I don’t remember the last time I felt so calm and relaxed.  Her soothing voice, the clarity of her words and her  ability to bring about an almost immediate calm was amazing.  Many, many times I’ve listened to her guided meditation on abundance.  I was introduced to  Jeanie Marshall a few years ago and highly recommend her work to anyone who wants to learn more about energy and how to shift it.  Jeanie is an expert in all areas of personal development.  She has a series of teleclasses coming up; some for a fee and some for free.  I promise you, participation in Jeanie’s work will bring about significant changes in the way you think and feel.  Click here for a list of her upcoming classes.  It will be a gift to yourself.

  • This is interesting. I always wondered how some people just have an aura of calmness around them and it affects everybody else they deal with. Including children.

I always wanted to be like that…
